Observed annually on 17 November, World Prematurity Day is a global movement dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges and profound impacts of early birth on vulnerable infants and their families.
With approximately 1 in 10 babies born prematurely worldwide, amounting to over 13 million births each year, preterm complications remain the leading cause of death for children under five. This observance serves as a critical call to action to improve healthcare policies, advance neonatal research, and ensure that every family has access to equitable, high-quality maternal and newborn care regardless of where they live.
Fostering global awareness and investing in life-saving interventions is essential to protecting our most fragile population and giving every child the healthy start they deserve.
