World Bee Day celebrates the critical work bees and pollinators do to keep our ecosystems thriving, while urgently highlighting the dangers they face.
The UN officially launched this observance in 2018, sparked by efforts from Apimondia and the Government of Slovenia. The date honours the birth of Anton Janša, Slovenia’s pioneer of modern beekeeping.
With insect populations rapidly shrinking, World Bee Day serves as a rallying cry. It urges governments, nonprofits, and everyday citizens alike to step up, protect pollinator habitats, and support sustainable beekeeping before it's too late.
